Vineyard Update

The frost season is still upon us in Martinborough with local vineyards having called in helicopters several times over the past week. Sunny days have seen clear cold nights and whilst it is nice to enjoy the sunshine, there is always a nagging worry at the back of all vineyard workers' minds!

However, the sunshine has meant that the village has seen tractors trundling along, mowing the rows between the vines to keep the grass short for frost protection and pest protection (some bugs use the grass to crawl along and to then gain easy access to the succulent new leaves of the vines).

At Tirohana the team have been mowing, weeding the roses at the front of the vines and walking through every row, monitoring growth and health of the vines, which are in excellent condition.

In the Cellar Door, the team is busy preparing for the upcoming Toast Martinborough Festival, taking orders for Christmas wine deliveries and gift box orders and keeping out of the way of the builders, who are working hard on the Tirohana Cellars, with concrete being poured for the veranda this week.

The veranda will be a wonderful place to sit and look out over the vines, with cover overhead for wet days.
