THORNDON FAIR
UPDATE
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Tirohana Estate stall at the Thorndon Fair yesterday and for filling in your details on the entry form - the winner will be announced this week!
It was a beautiful day and many of you asked for details of the wine jellies, cookies, art tiles, accommodation and wine as well as the Adopt A Vine package and the gift boxes, perfect for Christmas...
ART
TILES
Hand painted and fired above 1000 Celsius, the procedure produces brilliantly coloured and complex glazes.
Hang on the wall as a work of art or place a smaller tile on a table in the same way you would a photo frame.
Available for order via the Online Store or at the Cellar Door, there is a wide selection available but only a very limited number of each of the tiles given the handmade nature.
Because each tile is handpacked in styrofoam and cardboard the tiles are easy to post within New Zealand and Internationally.
ACCOMMODATION
Available at the 5-star luxury Tirohana Estate Colonial House on the vineyard or at the cute and charming Duckback Cottage in Martinborough all year round, both properties are self-contained and perfect for a night or week away for a romantic escape, family reunion, Girls Night In - or just to escape every day life.
WINE JELLIES
Handmade from a traditional secret family recipe, these jellies are unique to Tirohana Estate. The wine jelly is made from the award-winning wines direct from the Cellar Door. The alcohol is burned off in the cooking process, which means that they are non-alcoholic but retain the full flavour of the wine.
The jellies stay fresh for up to 2 years unopened and once open should be stored in the fridge for up to 4 months.
Everybody has their own favourite way of using these jellies but here are a few suggestions:-
Brush on meat before you BBQ or grill for a luscious flavour (Pinot Noir is perfect with lamb or beef, whilst Sauvignon or Chardonnay lend themselves well to shellfish or whitebait fritters and Rose to salmon)
Use as you would a chutney on the side of a plate of cheese and crackers or cold meats and salads
Stir a spoonful through some fruit salad
Spoon over vanilla bean ice cream (Sauvignon or Chardonnay jellies) or chocolate ice cream (Pinot Noir jelly)
Spread the Pinot Noir jelly between two layers of rich chocolate cake, served with whipped cream or vanilla bean ice cream
Serve with pikelets and cream
Spread on a pavlova for a very Kiwi Merry Christmas
Mix some Pinot Noir jelly with fresh berries spoon into brandy snap, served with cream for a decadent dessert
Pop a whole camembert or brie in foil, put on the BBQ or in the embers of a campfire until it is oozing;; heavenly on French bread topped with Pinot Noir jelly
Serve Pinot Noir jelly with your Christmas turkey, chicken or ham instead of cranberry sauce
And finally, as the Tirohana team is fond of doing, spread on your toast in the morning!
GIFT BOXES
Sumptuous gift boxes full of Tirohana Estate wines and artisan produce including pistachio and cheddar shortbreads, wine wafers, Toffee Balsamic sauces and local olive oil.
