Budburst and weather

Well today was a beautiful spring day - apart from the wind! Gale force at times, the vineyard was rocked by some 130kmph gusts. However, we think that is better than the driving rains we've been having.

The buds have well and truly burst and the little leaves on the vines are growing rather nicely. It will soon be time for bud rubbing, when the team comes in to literally take the buds off the lower part of the cane to ensure that the buds we want to keep will get all the right nourishment from the vine.

Until then, we will keep waiting and watching the weather, hoping that there are no late frosts in this vulnerable part of the vineyard cycle.
